1.1. What's the difference between Outlook Express plain text options and Email Sentinel Pro?
1.1.
Email Sentinel Pro is not only about converting HTML messages to plain
text. Email Sentinel Pro acts like a cache between your email client
software (like Outlook Express) and your email server. It protects your
email client from receiving potential dangerous emails (attachments,
scripts and HTML code&forms).
Indeed, using Outlook Express you can choose to see emails in plain
text, but this is all that you can do. Email Sentinel Pro works with any
email client (as long as it is a POP3 or IMAP client) and it converts the
emails BEFORE they reach the email client software. As a matter of fact,
most of the viruses are using Outlook security holes to attack a computer.
Only by choosing to see the emails as plain text (using the OE feature you
mentioned), it will not protect Outlook Express from being attacked.
The scope of Email Sentinel Pro is not to convert emails to plain text,
but to protect your email software (and computer) from viruses travelling
with emails. Especially for MS-Outlook and Outlook Express, it is important to prevent receiving
such emails.
1.2.
Will Email Sentinel Pro work on my computer if I have Norton's Anti Virus installed on it?
1.2.
Email Sentinel Pro does not have anything to do with Norton AntiVirus or any other anti-virus software, so you can easily use them simultaneously.
1.3.
How do I open up the program so I can set my preferences?
1.3.
In order to access the Email Sentinel Pro features, run the program, click
on "Try Now", then the window will be closed. You will notice a new icon
on your systray menu (where the clock is shown): either double click on it
or right click and select the desired options.
1.4.
What operating systems are currectly supported by Email Sentinel Pro?
1.4.
Email Sentinel Pro runs on Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003. In order to properly use it, you will need a POP3, IMAP or HTTP(Hotmail) email acount.
1.5.
How can I load Email Sentinel Pro to the Windows Startup?
1.5.
In order to run Email Sentinel Pro at the Windows startup, drag the program icon and drop it to the Windows Startup menu (from Start->Programs->Startup).
1.6.
How do I set it so that I can send mail even when E-Mail Sentinel Pro is running?
1.6.
Solution 1.
Do you know if you are using a mail proxy server between Thunderbird and the
mail server? Email Sentinel Pro scans only the POP3/IMAP/Hotmail
connections and it does not "monitor" the traffic for outgoing emails
(which is normally done via SMTP). So I suspect it might be a conflict
between Email Sentinel and a mail proxy which is running on a port which
Email Sentinel understands as POP3.
Solution 2.
With Thunderbird you must install the standard MAPI Client. Therefor activate
under Extra->Options->MAPI the point 'Thunderbird as mapi server' through the
option 'always'. Afterwards Thunderbird must be selected as standard mail
program in the Internet Explorer (see above with Outlook). The description
and the place of the settings can vary from version to version! (use
help).
Solution 3.
Another reason might be related to the way Thunderbird is using the MAPI
functions (which is not exactly how Microsoft intended to be used). You
may want to read this thread on the Microsoft support:

1.7.
How do I access the Email Sentinel Pro log file?
1.7.
Open the main window of EMail Sentinel Pro, go to the Miscellaneous tab
and there is a frame called "Logging".
The log file is named esp.log and it is located on the installation folder
of Email Sentinel (by default it is C:\Program Files\EmailSentinelPro\).
You can use NotePad, Word or Excel to view the log file.
1.8.
I've downloaded Email Sentinel Pro, I see it running in my task bar, but I don't see it do anything. Am I missing something?
1.8.
In order to access the Email Sentinel Pro features, you need to double click on the task bar icon or to right click on it and then select the options. Email Sentinel Pro doesn't "do" anything to your emails, but it scans your incoming email traffic and depending on your settings, it either converts the emails to harmless text, either it blocks other potential dangerous email parts (like nested scripts or attachments which may contain viruses or spamming tricks).
